Jeremy Lin just joined the Toronto Raptors last week, so forgive him for not being familiar with what his new jersey number is.
Accustomed to wearing the No. 7, Jeremy Lin admitted that he actually put on Kyle Lowry’s uniform before practice on Wednesday and found it kind of strange that the gear didn’t fit.
Then he realized, that wasn’t his jersey.
Lin, now No. 17, was waived by the Atlanta Hawks. He proceeded to sign with the Raptors, who were in desperate need of backcourt help after trading C.J. Miles and Delon Wright in the Marc Gasol deadline deal and then seeing backup point guard Fred VanVleet go down with a thumb injury.
The 30-year-old made his Raptors debut on Feb. 13, finishing with eight points, five rebounds and five assists in 25 minutes during Toronto’s win over the Washington Wizards.
On the season overall, Lin is averaging 10.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 19.8 minutes per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor, 32.6 percent from 3-point range and 84.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Lin is now with his eighth NBA team and has never stayed with any one ballclub for more than two seasons throughout his nine-year tenure in the NBA.
He began his career with the Golden State Warriors during the 2010-11 campaign, playing in just 29 games. The following year, he landed with the New York Knicks, where he put himself on the map courtesy of an outstanding run that sparked “Linsanity.”
Since then, Lin has played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets before splitting this season between Atlanta and Toronto.
