With the official start of the season fast approaching, the Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of finalizing their roster for the new campaign. Unfortunately for them, two players that have turned out as victims of these final cuts are veterans Lance Thomas and C.J. Williams. This comes straight from an official Nets press release via NBA.com.
Williams recently signed a one-year minimum salary deal with the Nets in late September, but as it turns out, he hasn’t shown enough to warrant a spot in the final roster. Last season, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard played 15 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging just 2.6 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 8.5 minutes of play.
Similarly, Thomas also signed a minimum deal with Brooklyn to join the squad’s preseason lineup. Previously, the 6-foot-8 forward spent five seasons with the Nets’ cross-town rivals, the New York Knicks, averaging 6.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 20.7 minutes of actions.
For his part, though, there is some hope that Thomas will eventually link up with the Nets once he clears waivers. A spot will open up in Brooklyn’s roster and Thomas is hoping that he gets his number called by the team’s front office.

While Thomas will not likely earn a significant spot on the rotation if an when he re-signs with the Nets later on, his main value comes from the wealth of experience he brings to the table. There are a lot of young players on the Brooklyn squad that could benefit from a guy like Thomas hanging around in the locker room.
